University of Delaware Indoor Track Teams to Compete in Regional Championships this Weekend in Boston

BOSTON -- University of Delaware athletes will compete in 10 events this weekend when Boston University hosts the annual men’s Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletes of America (IC4A) and women’s Eastern College Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Boston Armory.

A total of 14 Blue Hen student-athletes are expected to compete against the top indoor track and field athletes in the East when the meet gets underway Saturday and continues through Sunday.

On Saturday, sophomore Cristine Marquez (at right) will compete in the women’s 200 meter and 400 meter dash events and team with senior Asha Quant, freshman Kristi Cox, and freshman Kayla Hennessy in the women’s 4 x 400 meter relay, Quant will participate in the women’s 60 meter dash, and senior Brad Dodson will compete in the men’s 3,000 meter run and team with senior Will Jurkowski, junior Adam Cornelisse, and senior Mike Zeberkiewicz in the men’s 4 x 400 meter relay. Freshman Jeremy Simkins and senior Tim Brock are also eligible to compete as members of the relay team.

On Sunday, junior Amanda Marshall will compete in the women’s weight throw, juniors Laura Chirico and Kelli McDonald will compete in the pole vault, and freshman John Viotto will take part in the men’s shot put. Running event championships will also be held on Sunday.

Six Delaware athletes are veterans of IC4A and ECAC indoor championship competitions. Dodson will be competing at the indoor championships for the third time in his career after earning All-East honors with a second place finish in the mile run in 2006 and placing 10th in the distance medley relay in 2005.

Jurkowski was 14th in the distance medley relay and 16th in the 800 meters in 2006, Zeberkiewicz was 10th in the distance medley relay in 2006, McDonald was 14th in the women’s pole vault in 2007, Quant was ninth in the long jump and ninth in the 4 x 400 meter relay in 2007, and Marquez earned All-East honors with a second place finish in the 400 meters and was ninth in the 4 x 400 meter relay in 2007.
