BOSTON --
University of Delaware indoor track and
field athletes established three school
records Saturday in competition at the
women's ECAC and mens' IC4A regional
championships.
The ECAC
championships were held at the Reggie
Lewis Sports Complex while the mens' IC4A
championships were held at Boston
University. The meets marked the final
action of the indoor season for both Blue
Hen teams.
The
Delaware men set two school records as the
4 x 400 meter relay team of Chris Dixon,
Pat Henry, Phil Smiley, and Charlie
Williams placed 13th overall with a time
of 3:17.04, breaking the third longest
current standing record in UD annals, and
the distance medley relay team of Dave
Sherman, Charlie Dielmann, Mike
Zeberkiewicz, and Brad Dodson placed 10th
in a time of 10:03.62. Also for the UD
men, Rashaad Woodard placed 32nd in the 55
meters with a time of 6.67.
On the
women's side, Brittany Wright (right)
broke her own school record in the 60
meters with a time of 7.73 in the
semifinals to place 10th overall. She
advanced to the finals after placing 11th
in the preliminaries with a time of 7.77.
Delaware freshman Colleen O'Brien also
placed 15th in the mile run with a time of
4:59.33 and Casey Bennett competed in the
pole vault but did not meet the minimum
height. Bennett placed 14th in the event
The Blue
Hen 4 x 400 meter relay team ran to a time
of 3:17.04 to break the mark of 3:18.4 set
by Joe Deluca, Lloyd Mears, John
Flickinger, and Ed Mongan in 1973. Long
Island won the race with a time of
3:12.13.
The UD
distance medley relay team ran to a time
of 10:03.62 to place 10th, missing a
chance to advance to the finals by just
one place. The time broke the school
record of 10:05.35 set by Troy Bockius,
Brian Demlein, Joe Quigley, and Mike
DiGennaro in 2000. William & Mary won
the race in a time of 9:55.91.
