Pepe Places 3rd in Pole Vault

 

LANDOVER, MD - Five University of Delaware track and field athletes posted a total of six top 10 finishes at the Prince George's Collegiate Indoor Track and Field Invitational Saturday at the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex.

Senior Marta Pepe (Hopatuong, NJ HS), the only Blue Hen women's competitor, led the way as she earned a third place finish out of 18 competitors in the pole vault with a leap of 10-4.

For the Blue Hen men, junior Butter Pressey (Newark/Wilmington, DE) placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 23-feet 1/2 inch and added a sixth place finish in the 55 meters with a time of 6.51 seconds.

Senior Sam Yarrington (Quaker Valley/Sewickley, PA) placed fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 51- 3 1/2 and was 12th in the shot put with a distance of 42-10 1/4.

Also for the Hens, junior Butch Patrick (Newark, DE HS), last week's America East Championships Outstanding Performer, placed seventh in the long jump (21-7 1/2) while junior Jamin Elliott (Churchland/Portsmouth, VA) was eighth in the long jump with a distance of 21-5 1/2.

The Blue Hen men will compete at the IC4A championships and the UD women will take part at the ECAC championships this weekend. Both events, which include the top NCAA Division I individuals and teams in the East, will be held at the Reggie Lewis Sports Complex in Boston.
