NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware men captured the team title and the UD women's placed fourth as the Blue Hens opened up their 1998-99 dual meet indoor season by hosting the Delaware Invitational Friday night at Delaware Field House.

In the men's meet, Delaware earned 186 points to outlast Lehigh (122), Delaware State (75), Temple (60), and Howard (55) in the five team field. Princeton captured the women's team title with 210 points to down Lehigh (87.5), Howard (66.5), Delaware (63), Temple (51), and Delaware State (25) in the six-team field.

Taking first place finishes for the Blue Hen men were Mark Coyle in the 800 meters (1:59.34), Steve Sinko in the mile (4:24.45), Mike Puglisi in the 3,000 meters (8:45.53), Bernie Hayes in the triple jump (42-11), and the 4 x 800 meter relay (8:09.10).

Delaware State's Casey Swain was a double winner, capturing the 60 meters (6.87) and 60 meter hurdles (7.99) while teammate Darnell McLean won the 1,000 meters (2:33.58), Danarian McCants won the high jump (6-6 3/4), Ean Rose won the shot put (52-8 3/4), and the 4 x 400 meter relay took a first place finish in 3:25.16. Howard's Jason Charters was also a double winner, taking the 200 and 400 meter races.

On the womens' side, Princeton took home eight first place finishes. Picking up victories for Delaware were Kristen Robbins in the mile (5:22.35), Colleen Christopher in the long jump (16-9 3/4), and Brandy Connell in the 20 lb. weight throw (51-5 3/4).
