Gemmill Leads Hens Again as Delaware Places 25th in Team Standings

LOCK HAVEN, PA -- The University of Delaware men's cross country team placed 13th out of 27 teams while the women's squad placed 25th out of 26 teams at the NCAA District II Championships Saturday at Lock Haven University.

Erin Gemmill led all Blue Hen runners with a 103rd place finish
Senior Patrick Riley (St. Mark's/Newark, DE) led the Delaware men by placing 18th overall with a time of 31:09 on the 10,000-meter course. Riley, who placed second at the Colonial Athletic Association championships two weeks ago, led the Blue Hens for the 23rd straight time in his career. He will hold out hope to be invited to the NCAA championships Nov. 24 at Northern Iowa University. The selections will be made this week.

Villanova captured the men's team title as it put three runners in the top 10 led by second place finisher Jonathan Fasulo (30:30). Penn State freshman Dan Mazzocco won the race in a time of 30:26. After Villanova, Georgetown was second followed by Princeton, American, Penn State, Navy, La Salle, Bucknell, St. Francis (PA), and Pennsylvania in the 27-team field.

Also for the Delaware men, Mike Sadowsky (Brandywine/Wilmington, DE) was 61st (32:02), John Morgan (San Clemente/Ladera Ranch, CA) finished 97th (33:02), Kevin Duprey (Lampeter-Strasburg/Strasburg, PA) was 98th (33:04), P.J. Meany (Salesianum/Hockessin, DE) placed 99th (33:05), Jason Gordon (Christiana/Newark, DE) was 123rd, and Matt Bryden (Wilde Lake/Ellicott City, MD) was 163rd. A total 184 runners crossed the finish line in the men's race.

Delaware senior Erin Gemmill (Penn Manor/Lancaster, PA) placed 103rd overall with a time of 23:14 in the 6,000-meter women's race to lead the Blue Hens. Georgetown won the women's team title as senior Treniere Clement placed first with a time of 20:02 and junior Nicole Lee came in ninth at 20:34. Princeton was second in the team standings followed by Villanova, Penn State, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, American, Maryland, La Salle, and Pittsburgh in the top 10.

Out of 176 finishers on the women's side, Delaware's Meghan Weaver (Archbishop Spalding/Harwood, MD) was 110th (23:22), Jennifer Kutney (Brandywine/Wilmington, DE) was 150th (24:17), Sari Weissbard (Fairlawn/Fairlawn, NJ) finished 157th (24:36), Allison Behrle (Stonewall Jackson/Manassas, VA) placed 162nd (25:52), Renee Gresh (Washington Twp./Turnersville, NJ) was 163rd (24:57), and Kate Klim (Barnstable/Cummaquid, MA) was 167th (25:21).

Both Delaware teams will compete at the ECAC and IC4A championships at Van Cortlandt State Park in New York City.
