Delaware Women Place Sixth Led by Gemmill

TOWSON, MD -- Senior Patrick Riley recorded the best conference finish for the University of Delaware men since 1962 in leading the Blue Hens to a third place team finish at the Colonial Athletic Association Cross Country Championships Saturday at Towson University's Oregon Ridge Park.

Erin Gemmill led all Blue Hen runners with a 26th place finish

Riley (St. Mark's/Newark, DE) placed second overall in the men's race with a time of 25:46 over the 8,000-meter course to lead the UD men to their third straight third place finish at the meet. Riley, who has now led the Hens in 23 consecutive meets since 2001, earned the best finish by a Delaware runner at the conference meet since Roy Jernigan was second at the Middle Atlantic Conference meet in 1962.

The University of Delaware women, led by a 26th place finish (23:12 over 6,000m) by senior Erin Gemmill (Penn Manor/Lancaster, PA), finished sixth in the team standings, improving one spot from last season.

The William & Mary men captured their fourth straight team title with 20 points followed by James Madison (54), Delaware (76), Virginia Commonwealth (126), Towson (153), Hofstra (164), George Mason (182), and UNC Wilmington (228). Either William & Mary and James Madison have finished first and second each of the last 12 CAA championships. Delaware has finished in the top three of its conference meet eight times in the last 11 seasons.

The Tribe totalled 18 points followed by James Madison (51), Hofstra (78), Towson (123), Virginia Commonwealth (140), Delaware (161), George Mason (186), and UNC Wilmington (202).

The Tribe placed seven runners in the top 10. Also for the Hens, senior Mike Sadowsky (Brandywine/ Wilmington, DE) earned his third career top 20 league finish with a 13th place finish (26:39) while sophomore Kevin DuPrey (Lampeter-Strasburg/Strasburg, PA) was 18th (27:09), and senior John Morgan (San Clemente/Ladera Ranch, CA) was 23rd (27:40).
