Hens Place 12th in Team Standings; Alexander Leads Way at 22nd

  

 

Aimee Alexander led the Blue Hens with a 22nd place finish

BETHLEHEM, PA -- Pat Riley and Aimee Alexander continued to lead the way for the University of Delaware men's and women's cross country teams Saturday as Alexander led the UD women to a 12th place finish and Riley pushed the men to a 14th place finish at the NCAA District II Cross Country Championships at Lehigh University.

The Delaware women placed 12th overall out of 26 teams with 299 points while the Blue Hen men placed 14th out of 29 teams with 438 points.

Villanova won the men's team title and placed second in the women's race while the Georgetown women won the team title and the Hoya men were second. In the men's race, Princeton was third followed by LaSalle and Penn State. In the women's race, Georgetown and Villanova were followed by Bucknell, LaSalle, and Penn State.

Alexander, a senior from Stormville, NY (Mt. Carmel HS) led the Blue Hen women for the sixth time in seven meets this season with a 22nd place finish in 21:41.28. Also for the Hens, senior Monica Marchetta (Milton, MA HS) was 52nd (22:30.89), senior Karen Reber (Pottsgrove/Pottstown, PA) was 70th; (22:44.46), freshman Ashley Olsen (Bishop Eustace/Mt. Laurel, PA) was 84th (23:05.87), senior Sarah Johnson (RHAM/Mt. Hebron, CT) was 87th (23:09.31), senior Jenn Krisch (Great Valley/Malvern, PA) was 95th (23:22.73), and freshman Kate Klim (Barnstable/Cummaquid, MA was 125th (24:01.14). Georgetown swept the first four places in the race led by individual champion Marni Kruppa, who covered the course in 20:34.31.

Riley, a junior from St. Mark's HS (Newark, DE), led the Blue Hens for the seventh straight time this season as he placed 28th with a time of 31:28.66. Also for the Hens, junior Mike Sadowsky (Concord/Wilmington, DE) was 81st (32:41.29), sophomore Matt Swierzbinski (Caesar Rodney/Wyoming, DE) was 107th (33:12.88), junior Pat Boettcher (William Penn/Newark, DE) was 112th (33:16.16), senior Pete Kelly (Elmira Southside/Pine City, NY) was 127th (33:4874), junior Dave Finneran (Rutherford, NJ HS) was 136th (34:00.51), and junior Carl Kinney (Middletown/Townsend, DE) was 145th (34:09.89). Villanova's Adrian Blincoe won the individual title in a time of 30:31.50.

Both Delaware teams will continue action Nov. 17 at the IC4A and ECAC Championships at Van Cortland State Park in New York City.
