RICHMOND, VA --- The University of Delaware swept the first weekly
honors for the 2005 Colonial Athletic Association cross country season
as junior P.J. Meany and sophomore Colleen O’Brien were named their
respective CAA Runners of the Week, the league office has announced.

Meany, a junior from Hockessin, DE (Salesianum HS), was named the Men’s
Runner of the Week while O’Brien, a sophomore from Lebanon, NJ (North
Hunterdon HS), was named the Women’s Runner of the Week.

Meany also won the award last year while O’Brien was last year’s CAA
Women’s Cross Country Rookie of the Year.

Both Meany and O’Brien captured individual titles at the season-opening
Seahawk Invitational hosted by UNC Wilmington last Friday in Wilmington,
NC. Meany won the six-kilometer men’s race in 18:48.86, winning by over
19 seconds, to lead the Blue Hens to a second place team finish.

O’Brien, who has now led the team in six straight meets since last
season, including a fourth place finish at last year’s CAA
Championships, covered the five-kilometer course in 18:02.46 to win by
over 12 seconds. She led Delaware to the team title, its first
invitational team title since the 2001 season.

Both Delaware teams will host the annual Delaware Invitational this
Saturday at White Clay Creek State Park in Newark, DE. The men’s race
will begin at 10:30 a.m. followed by the women’s race at 11:10 a.m.
Expected to join Delaware in the action are Coppin State, Delaware
State, Hofstra, Lincoln, Morgan State, Pennsylvania, Richard Stockton
State, and Towson.
