To Third Place Finish at Delaware

--- Sophomore P.J. Meany (Hockessin,
DE/Salesianum) finished second in 26:17.04
to lead the University of Delaware men's
cross country team to a first place finish
at the Delaware Invitational at White Clay
Creek State Park Saturday
morning.
The Blue
Hen men, who had six runners place in the
top nine, finished with 24 points, while
the Delaware women finished in third place
with 62 points.
Maryland-Eastern
Shore's Barnabas Togom won the men's
eight-kilometer race in 26:14.36, followed
by Meany, UD graduate Mike DiGennaro and
Martin Suarez of Monmouth. Blue Hen senior
Matt Harrell (Middletown, DE/Middletown)
finished fifth in 27:41.48, sophomore Tim
Vitez (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield) was
sixth in 27:47.27, sophomore Tyler
Mayforth (Wilmington, DE/Mt. Pleasant)
came in seventh in 27:47.67, junior Kevin
DuPrey (Strasburg, PA/Lampeter-Strasburg)
placed eighth in 27:49.41, and sophomore
Bradley Dodson (Martinsburg,
WV/Martinsburg) finished ninth in
27:52.71.
Also for
Delaware, sophomore Kyle Schmid
(Lutherville, MD/Towson) was 12th in
28:00.85, sophomore Jeremy Lambert (Dover,
DE/Middletown) was 13th in 28:04.10,
sophomore Peter Kane (Rhinebeck,
NY/Rhinebeck) was 15th in 28:10.80, junior
Matt Bryden (Ellicott City, MD/Wilde Lake)
was 16th in 28:18.85, and senior Daniel
Frey (York, PA/York Suburban) was 19th in
28:26.20.
Monmouth
finished second in the men's race with 64
points, followed by Maryland-Eastern Shore
(66), Howard (98), Coppin State (127),
Delaware State (196), Lincoln (207),
Morgan State (233), and Marymount
(267).
Freshman
Colleen O'Brien (Lebanon, NJ/North
Hunterdon) led the Blue Hen women by
finishing fourth in the six-kilometer race
in 23:44.17, while senior Kate Klim
(Cummaquid, MA/Barnstable) was 12th in
25:05.99 and junior Allison Behrle
(Manassas, VA/Stonewall Jackson) placed
13th in 25:14.12. Senior Ashley Olsen (Mt.
Laurel, NJ/Bishop Eustace) came in 15th in
25:22.61, junior Brenda Greene (Hanover,
MA/Hanover) was 22nd in 25:48.61,
sophomore Meghan Weaver (Harwood,
MD/Archbishop Spalding) was 25th in
26:11.78, and senior Mary Martini
(Hummelstown, PA/Bishop McDevitt) was 26th
in 26:13.36.
Monmouth
won the women's race with 53 points,
followed by Towson (61), Delaware, Howard
(81), Maryland-Eastern Shore (114), Morgan
State (185), Marymount (223), Delaware
State (225), Coppin State (229), and
Lincoln (284). The top women's finisher
was Eva Slavikova of Maryland-Eastern
Shore, who complete the race in
23:10.44
Both Blue
Hen teams return to action on Saturday,
October 30 when they compete in the
Colonial Athletic Association
Championships hosted by James Madison
University.
