Reber edges Alexander as Delaware wins

NEWARK, DE -- Delaware's Karen
Reber (Pottstown, PA/Pottsgrove) finished just ahead of
Aimee Alexander (Stormville, NY/Carmel) in the
women's race, and Mike DiGennaro (Essex, MA/Hamilton-Wenham)
won the men's race as the University of Delaware women's and
men's cross country teams won their respective meets
Saturday in the Delaware Invitational held at White Clay
Creek State Park.
Reber finished just ahead of Alexander in
23:33 in the 6000 meter course as Delaware won the meet with
21 points. Bucknell finished second with 42 points, followed
by Hofstra with 71 and Lincoln (PA) with 112.
Monica Marchetia finished third in
24:22, and Dana Kolesar was fifth in 24:44 for the
Blue Hens. Shauna Hughes was 10th in 25:17, and
Krista Kugler finished 13th in 25:24.
In the men's race, DiGennaro cruised to
the victory at 25:44, ahead of Delaware's Pat Riley,
who finished second at 26:20. The Delaware men won the meet
with 18 points, ahead of Bucknell (40), Villanova (94), St.
Peter's (101), Hofstra (139), and LIncoln (179).
Robb Munro placed fourth in 26:59,
Matt Swierzbinski was fifth in 27:13, and Peter Kelly
was sixth in 27:17 for the Hens.
Both Delaware teams will be off until
hosting the America East Championships Oct. 28 at Carpenter
Park.
