Alexander Leads Blue Hens Once Again

ORLANDO, FL -- Junior Aimee Alexander placed sixth overall to lead the University of Delaware women's cross country squad to a fourth place team finish at the World Disney World Classic Saturday's at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex.

Alexander, a junior from Stormville, NY (Carmel HS) who has led the Blue Hens in all four meets this season, covered the 5,000 kilometer course in 18:14.92, just 12 seconds off the third place mark. Delaware placed fourth out of 25 teams with 112 points.

Virginia Tech took the team title with 33 points followed by Central Florida (78), and Florida Southern (102). The University of Florida placed seventh (178).

Central Florida's Sonja Shedden took medalist honors with a time of 17:12.37, bettering runner-up Stacey Vidt of Virginia Tech by almost 42 seconds.

Blue Hens finishing in the Top 50 in the 208-runner field were senior Karen Reber (Pottstown, PA/Pottsgrove) who placed 10th in a time 18:27.63; Dana Kolesar (King of Prussia, PA/Upper Merion) was 20th in 18:44; Jennifer Krisch (Malvern/Great Valley, PA) was 39th in 19:13; and Monica Marchetta (Milton, MA HS) was 44th in 19:18.

Delaware will host the Delaware Invitational this Saturday at White Clay Creek State Park.
