NEWARK, DE -- Senior Mike DiGennero (Essex, MA/Hamilton-Wenham) ran the 8,000-meter race in 25:19.24 to finish third and lead the University of Delaware men's cross country team to a fourth place finish in the 2000 America East Cross Country Championships held Saturday morning at White Clay Creek State Park in Newark. The Delaware women finished fifth. DiGennero, who was looking to become the first Delaware men's runner to win a conference meet since 1959, finished behind champion Jochen Dieckfoss (25:01.47) and runner-up Fredrik Naalsund (25:10.81), both from Boston University. With four of the top five finishers, the Terriers won the men's meet. Freshman Pat Riley finished sixth in 25:43.15 for the Blue Hens, Pat Boettcher was 26th in 26:53.53, and Peter Kelly was 27th in 26:56.96. Delaware was led in the women's race by Aimee Alexander (Stormville, NY/Carmel), who finished the 6,000-meter course in 23:07.41. Monica Marchetta finished 18th in 24:01.21, and Karen Reber was 19th in 24:03.84 for the Blue Hens. Boston University won the women's meet for the 10th time in the last 11 years, and was led by Bolpar Vinh, who won the women's race with a time of 21:59.59.
