University of Delaware Rowers Place Second in Novice Eights Petite Final at Knecht Cup Regatta

CAMDEN, NJ -- University of Delaware women rowers competed in the Novice Fours and Novice Eights races Sunday at the second and final day of the Knecht Cup Regatta on the Cooper River.

The Delaware Novice Eights team of coxswain Marra Green, Tracy Iudica, Leanna Colubriale, Sara Leviton, Steph Lynch, Katelyn Huber, Corey Kalota, Kaitlin Roehrer, and Sarah Baillie, which placed second in its heat Saturday, finished second in the petite (consolation) final on Sunday and posted an overall eighth place finish to lead all UD crews.

Delaware rowed to a time of 7:23.7 to place second in the petite final behind winner Marist (7:19.8). Rochester was third in 7:33.5 followed by West Virginia (7:36.9), Duquesne (7:37.8), and Lafayette (7:45.0). Boston College was the overall winner, captured the grand final with a time of 7:05.5.

The Delaware Novice Fours team of coxswain Jen Popkin, Rachel Waylett, Lindsay Byrne, Valerie Glace, and Tara Bree placed sixth in the third level final Sunday with a time of 9:07.6 to place 18th overall.

The team had finished second in its heat and sixth in the semifinals in Saturday’s action. Pitt won the third level final with a time of 8:42.6 followed by Lehigh (8:50.4), Fairfield (8:52.1), Dowling (8:56.6), and Johns Hopkins (8:58.4). Buffalo was the overall winner with a first place finish in the grand final while Rhode Island captured the petite final.

Delaware competed in three other races Saturday as the Second Varsity Eights team placed fifth in its heat, the Varsity Fours team placed sixth, and the Varsity Eights team was sixth in its heat.

The Blue Hens will return to action Saturday when they take part in the Colonial Athletic Association/Kerr Cup Regatta on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia.
