University of Delaware Rowers Compete at ECAC Metro Championships; Novice Eights Team Wins Petite Finals

CAMDEN, NJ -- The University of Delaware women’s rowing team competed at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Metro Championships Sunday on the Cooper River with the Novice Eights crew highlighting the day by winning the petite (consolation) finals.

Delaware’s other three boats - the Varsity Fours, Second Varsity Eights, and Varsity Eights - each placed fifth in their respective petite finals competitions on Sunday.

The Novice Eights crew of coxswain Marra Green (at right), Tracy Iudica, Leanna Colubriale, Sara Leviton, Steph Lynch, Katelyn Huber, Corey Kalota, Kaitlin Roehrer, and Sarah Baillie placed fourth in its heat and followed by winning the petite final with a time of 7:28, defeating runner-up Temple (7:31.1).

The Varsity Fours group of coxswain Amanda Burton, Alexx Delorme, Lily Chavarriaga, Erin Venturato, and Grace Bennett placed fifth in its heat with a time of 8:56.1, trailing winner Rhode Island (7:58.2), runner-up Bucknell (8:07.0), third place Buffalo (8:21.8), and Rutgers (8:40.0).

In the petite final, Delaware once again placed fifth with a time of 8:56.2, finishing behind winner Rhode Island (8:06.5), Rutgers A (8:12.4), Massachusetts (8:14.1), and Rutgers B (8:36.6).

In the Second Varsity Eights race, Delaware’s team of coxswain Avery Griffin, Katie Gooding, Clare Wardwell, Arielle Katz, Taima McCartney, Laura Stiffler, Maureen Reardon, Nicolette Lotrionte, and Brittany Hayes placed sixth in its heat with a time of 7:58.4. Massachusetts won the heat in a time of 6:58.9 followed by Bucknell (7:05.2), Rutgers (7:16.0), Temple (7:27.9), and Marist (7:36.7). The Hens then placed fifth in the petite final with a time of 7:30.1, trailing winner Colgate (7:09.2), Temple (7:15.0), Villanova (7:23.4), and Marist (7:25.8).

In the Varsity Eights race, Delaware crew of coxswain Callie Tegan, Mary Grace Maggiano, Darra Finnerty, Regine Adrien, Liz Cretekos, Elizabeth Carey, Lana Rivers, Meredith Rubin, and Lisa Medina finished fifth in its heat with a time of 7:34.0. Buffalo won the heat followed by Rhode Island, Colgate, Marist, and Villanova. In the petite final, Delaware placed fifth with a clocking of 7:10.7.
