University of Delaware Varsity Eights, Novice Eights Each Win Twice at George Washington Invitational

WASHINGTON, DC -- The University of Delaware Varsity Eights and Novice Eights crews each won two races and the Second Varsity Eights boat won once over the weekend at the George Washington Invitational on the Potomac River.

The Varsity Eights team of coxswain Kenna Plangemann, Laura Beaufort (at right), Lisa Ferrara, Elizabeth Carey, Christina Stanley, Justine Strausser, Melanie Turner, Lisa Medina, and Nikki Jackowsky posted wins over Georgetown (6:44.1 to 6:51.7) on Saturday morning and over West Virginia (6:17.9 to 6:28.0) Saturday afternoon. On Friday, the Blue Hens fell to Clemson, a crew that entered the week ranked No. 21 in the nation after being ranked as high as No. 12 earlier this season. Clemson’s time of 6:17.9 was just under 20 seconds better than Delaware’s clocking of 6:37.6.

The Novice Eights crew of coxswain Avery Griffin, Mary Grace Maggiano, Liz Cretekos, Alexx DeLorme, Jess Brooks, Regine Adrien, Brittany Hayes, Arielle Katz, and Kialeen Hay also posted two wins during the weekend, defeating George Washington (7:10.8 to 7:32.1) Saturday morning and West Virginia (7:12.3 to 7:44.4) Saturday afternoon following a loss to Clemson on Friday. Clemson’s time of 6:48.8 was 13 seconds faster than Delaware’s time of 7:01.6.

The Second Varsity Eights team of coxswain Cami Off, Katie Broullire, Lana Rivers, Jenn Boutin, Rachel Thomas, Maria Bellumori, Nicolette Lotrionte, Katie Gooding, and Lynn Hamski defeated Saint Joseph’s (6:52.9 to 6:59.4) on Saturday afternoon after being defeated by Clemson on Friday and by Clemson and Iowa on Saturday afternoon. Clemson defeated Delaware 6:26.8 to 6:50.7 in the morning race and 6:35.0 to 7:12.1 in the afternoon race.
