Delaware Women Rowers Compete in Five Events at Head of Schuylkill Regatta

PHILADELPHIA -- The University of Delaware women's rowing squad competed in five events at the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta Saturday on the Schuyllkill River.

Delaware placed second in the Women's College Freshman Novice Fours race, 15th and 42nd in the College Freshman Novice Eights race, 12th and 24th in the Women's Open Fours race, and 28th in the Women's Open Club Eights race. The Hens' Women's Championship Eights team competed but did not finish the race.

The Blue Hen Women's College Freshman Novice Fours squad of Callie Tegan, Ashley Sparano, Salena Klass, Lauren Taylor, and Karen Cardinal placed second out of 16 teams with a time of 18:22.34. Villanova won in a time of 17:45.04.

The Delaware Women's College Freshman Novice Eights "A" team of Cami Off, Ashley Sparano,Karen Cardinal, Lauren Taylor, Salena Klass, Justine Strausser, Meghan Doletzky, Carly Gonzalez, and Alyssa Hankins placed 15th out of 51 teams in a time o f 16:43.29 while the "B" team of Quinn Novels, Becca Furst, Kristen Cannatelli, Lily Chavarriaga, Ashley Baldwin, Emily Canniff, Lindsey Decktor, Stephanie Hendrixson, and Lana Rivers was 42nd in a time of 18:42.46. Princeton won the race with a time of 15:11.86.

The Blue Hen Women's Open Fours "A" team of Callie Tegan, Betsy Seeger, Lindsey Wood, Katie Broullire, and Susan Carbine placed 12th with a time of 18:37.28 while the "B" team of Jill Goldman, Jenn Boutin, Nicky Bradley, Laura Belfi, and Lynn Hamski finished 24th with a time of 19:25.23. Villanova won the race in a time of 17:20.43.

Delaware's Women's Championship Eights team of Alison Harrington, Lyra Sawzin, Lane Kohl, Laura Beaufort, Lisa Karwoski, Maureen Gillen, Melanie Turner, Elizabeth Martin, and Emily McElwain did not finish. Pennsylvania won the race in a time of 14:30.95.
