Rowers Compete in Two Races at ECAC Metro
Championships

WORCESTER,
MA -- The University of Delaware women's
rowing team competed in two races at the
Eastern College Athletic Conference
National Invitational Rowing Championships
Sunday on Lake Quinisgamond.
The Blue
Hens placed third in their heat of the
Novice Metro Eights race with a time of
7:19.46 and placed sixth in their heat of
the Varsity Metro Eights with a clocking
of 7:21.22.
The Novice
Eights team of Callie Tegan (right),
Ashley Sparano,Stephanie Hendrixson, Lily
Chavarriaga, Meghan Doletzky, Salena
Klass, Justine Strausser, Lana
Rivers,
and Lauren Taylor rowed to a time of
7:19.46, placing third behind heat winner
Buffalo (7:09.44) and Rhode Island
(7:11.41). Boston College was fourth in a
time of 7:41.42 while Marist was fifth in
7:45.41.
The
Varsity Eights team of Alison
Harrington,Lyra Sawzin, Lane Kohl, Maureen
Gillen, Melanie Turner, Laura Beaufort,
Jess Kostick, Christina Stanley, and Emily
McElwain turned in a time of 7:21.22 to
place sixth in their heat. Rhode Island
won in a time of 6:43.57 followed by San
Diego (6:45.04), Colgate (6:46.55), Marist
(6:46.92), New Hampshire (7:00.28), and
Delaware.
Massachusetts
won the other heat and went on to capture
the overall title with a time of 6:33.69
in the finals.
Delaware
will conclude its 2005 season this weekend
at the prestigious Dad Vail Regatta on the
Schuylkill River in Philadelphia.
