Hen Women Rowers Advance Novice Eights to
Semifinals at Dad Vail

PHILADELPHIA
-- The University of Delaware women's
rowing team competed in five races in the
opening day of the Dad Vail Regatta Friday
on the Schuylkill River, advancing the
Novice Eights team to Saturday's
semifinals.
Delaware's
Novice Eights team placed third in its
heat to advance to the semifinals and will
be the only UD squad competing Saturday.
The Blue Hens also placed fourth in their
heats of the Varsity Fours and the Second
Varsity Eights and were fifth in the
Novice Fours. Delaware's Varsity Eights
team placed fourth in its heat to advance
to the second round but was eliminated
with a fourth place finish in that race.
The
Delaware Novice Eights team of Cami Off,
Ashley Sparano,Stephanie Hendrixson,
Kristen Cannatelli, Meghan Doletzky
(right), Salena Klass, Justine Strausser,
Lana Rivers, and Lauren Taylor rowed to a
time of 8:14.70 to place third. Purdue won
the heat in 8:02.2 followed by Santa
Barbara (8:08.28), Delaware, Loyola
(8:33.41), Iona (9:04.49), and Albany
(9:20.81).
The
Varsity Eights group of Alison Harrington,
Lyra Sawzin, Lane Kohl, Maureen Gillen,
Melanie Turner, Laura Beaufort, Jess
Kostick, Christina Stanley, and Emily
McElwain rowed to a time of 6:57 to place
fourth in its heat. Purdue won the race in
6:43.06 followed by West Virginia
(6:48.47), Santa Clara (6:55.90),
Delaware, and Army (7:02.03). The Hens
then placed fourth in the second round
with a time of 7:31.95. Dayton won that
race in a time of 7:14.71 followed by
Tulsa (7:15.87), Lehigh (7:27.29),
Delaware, and Creighton (7:39.61).
In the
Varsity Fours, Delaware's squad of Jill
Goldman, Maria Bellumori, Lindsey Wood,
Stephanie Miller, and Susan Carbine was
fourth in a time of 8:24.34. Union won in
a time of 7:49.75 followed by Brandeis
(7:54.41), Florida (8:10.95), Delaware,
Iona (8:27.22), and UMBC
(9:06.57).
In the
Second Varsity Eights, Delaware's team of
Kenna Plangemann, Liz Martin, Nicky
Bradley, Katie Broullire, Cathy Savarese,
Jamie Schoenewald, Nikki Jackowsky, and
Jenn Boutin raced to a time of 8:04.38 to
place fourth. Connecticut won the race in
a time of 7;41.95 followed by Buffalo
(7:49.66), Fordham (7:53.82), Delaware,
and Temple (8;20.63).
In the
Novice Fours race, the Blue Hen squad of
Callie Tegan, Carly Gonzalez, Lindsay
Decktor, Emily Canniff, and Lily
Chavarriaga was fifth in a time of
8:30.04. Lafayette won in a time of
7:50.37 followed by Chicago (7:59.57),
Fordham (8:03.36), West Virginia
(8:17.66), and Delaware.
