Tri-Meet with LaSalle, Lehigh

 Blue Hens Open Spring Season; Slice Makes Debut as Head Coach

PHILADELPHIA -- The University of Delaware women's rowing team opened its 2004 season at La Salle against both the Explorers and Lehigh University Saturday morning on the Schuylkill River.

The meet was also the debut of first-year head coach Laura Slice, who took over the helm of the Blue Hens this past summer. Delaware captured one first place finish, three second place finishes, and one third place standings on the afternoon.

The Blue Hens' Second Varsity Eights boat captured the team's only win of the afternoon, finishing with a time of 7:19 while Lehigh finished with a time of 7:30. The team included coxswain Kat Campagnini, Lane Kohl, Maureen Gillen, Emily McElwain, Leanna Ferrand, Jess Kostick, Laura Muto, Cathy Savarese, and Lyra Sawzin.

Lehigh won the Second Novice Eights race with a time of 7:47, which topped Delaware's time of 7:48. The unit included coxswain Kenna Plangemann, Katie Broullire, Nicky Bradley, Stacey Walczak, Jenn Boutin, Laura Belfi, Lindsey Wood, Brie Sheppard, and Nicky Jackowsky.

In the Novice Eights race, the Blue Hens finished in second with a time of 8:21. Delaware's team included coxswain Alison Harrington, Betsy Seeger, Lisa Karowski, Laura Beaufort, Maria Bellumori, Elizabeth Martin, Rachel Thomas, Christina Stanley, and Lynn Hamski.

Host LaSalle took the Varsity Eights race with a time of 7:00, which beat Delaware's time of 7:18. Delaware's team included coxswain Carolyn Serey, Andrea Placke, Elizabeth McGarry, Janice Brown, Dawn Hussnatter, Elizabeth Harris, Elizabeth McInturff, Laura McDonald, and Melanie Turner.

In the Varsity Fours, La Salle captured first place with a time of 8:22 while Delaware took second with a time of 8:34. Lehigh finished third with a time of 8:44. Delaware's team included coxswain Jill Goldman, Jamie Schoenewald, Dawnyel Boucek, Stephanie Miller, and Susan Carbine.

The rowing team returns to action on March 27 when it travels to Miami, FL to take on Barry University in a dual meet.
