Blue Hens
Advance Three of Four Boats to Petite
Finals
CAMDEN, NJ -- The University of
Delaware women's rowing team advanced three of its four
boats to the petite finals with the Novice Eights taking
first place this past weekend at the Knecht Cup on the
Cooper River.
The Novice Eights team won its heat with
a time of 7:16.4 and placed fourth in the semifinals
(Massachusetts won with a time of 7:11.2) with a time of
7:17.1 on Saturday, and then captured the petite
(consolation) final (no time available) on Sunday to claim
the Hens' lone title of the regatta. Also for the Hens, the
Second Varsity Eights placed third in the petite finals
Sunday, the Second Novice Eights placed sixth in their final
Saturday, and the Varsity Eights placed fifth in its heat
and was eliminated from the semifinals Saturday.
The Novice Eights team consisted of
Alison Harrington, Rachel Thomas, Nicky Bradley,
Elizabeth Martin, Lisa Karwoski, Betsy Seeger, Laura
Beaufort, Maria Bellumori, and Nikki
Jackowsky.
The Second Varsity Eights team of
Nicole Lombardi, Lyra Sawzin, Emily McElwain, Elizabeth
Harris, Melanie Turner, Stephanie Miller, Dawn'yel Boucek,
Laura Muto, and Jess Kostick placed fourth in the
semifinals with a time of 7:25.85 (Buffalo won in a time of
7:02.25) and advanced to Sunday's petite final where they
placed third (no time available).
The Second Novice Eights advanced
directly to the finals and raced to a sixth place time of
7:54.3. Boston College won the event with a time of 7:34.1.
Delaware's team consisted of Nic Suto, Jenn Boutin, Lynn
Hamski, Katie Broullire, Stacey Walczak, Laura Belfi,
Lindsey Wood, Christina Stanley, and Brie
Sheppard.
The Varsity Eights team did not advance
after placing fifth in its heat with a time of 7:28.6. Saint
Joseph's won the heat with a time of 6:53. Delaware's team
consisted of Carolyn Serey, Andrea Placke, Elizabeth
McGarry, Leanna Ferrand, Elizabeth McInturff, Laura
McDonald, Dawn Hussnatter, Maureen Gillen, and Lane
Kohl.
The Blue Hens will compete this Saturday,
April 24, at the Kerr Cup on the Schuylkill River in
Philadelphia. The meet also serves as the unofficial
Colonial Athletic Association championships. The Hens have
the team title each of the past two seasons.
