Blue Hens
Open Spring Season in Philadelphia,
Virginia
NEWARK, DE -- The University of
Delaware womens rowing team opened up the 2003 spring
season with competitions vs. La Salle and Lehigh on the
Schuylkill River in Philadelphia and in a three-way meet
with San Diego State and Virginia in Charlottesville,
VA.
There was no team scoring in either
tri-meet.
At Philadelphia, the Hens captured first
place in the Novice Eights, placed third in both the Varsity
Eights and the Varsity Fours races. At Virginia, the Hens
placed second in the Varsity Eights race, Junior Varsity
Eights, and Novice Eights races.
Delaware picked up its only win in
Philadelphia in the Novice Eights as the team of Jamie
Hartnett, Courtney Maggiulli, Jessica Kostick, Cindy
Dudzinski, Kate Sianni, Stephanie Miller, Leah Conway,
Nicole Neidig, and Jen Vatimo raced to a time of
8:25 to beat Lehigh (8:49).
In the Varsity Eights, Delawares
team of Carolyn Serey, Denise Burke, Dana Lohr, Laura
Muto, Emily McElwain, Lyra Sawzin, Tory Yanakos Stefanie
Lazorick, and Liz Florin was third with a time of
7:23 behind the team of. Lehigh won the race in 6:59 while
La Salle was second at 7:16.
In the Varsity Fours, La Salle won in a
time of 8:41, Lehigh was second in 8:49, and Delaware was
third in 9:04. The Hens team consisted of Kat
Campagnini, Lindsay Greco, Nicole Ferrari, Hannah Evans, and
Susan Carbine.
At Virginia, Delaware was second in the
Varsity Eights with a time of 7:13 behind San Diego State
(7:05). Delawares team was Alli Garwood, Kylie
Campbell, Jess Colpo, Dawn Hussnatter, Betsy Ferry, Danah
O'Connor, Leanna Ferrand, Leslie Forsyth, and Laura
McDonald.
In the Junior Varsity Eights,
Delawares team of Nicole Lombardi, Elizabeth
Harris, Lisa Hardy, Andrea Placke, Alison Conway, Janice
Brown, Jen Suminski, Maureen Gillen, and Elizabeth
McGarry rowed to a time of 7:37, just behind San Diego
State (7:34).
In the Novice Eights, Virginia A was
first followed by Delaware and Virginia B. Delawares
team was comprised of Sarah Mazurkevich Jenna Darrenkamp,
Leslie Forsyth, Katherine Reiner, Val Schuster, Jamie
Schoenewald, Cathy Savarese, Lane Kohl, and Becca
Bauer. No times were available.
Delaware will return to action March 29
for a tri-meet with host Georgetown and North Carolina in
Washington, DC.
