Delaware
Advances to Finals in Five
Events
CAMDEN, NJ -- The University of
Delaware had five crews advance to the finals, led by a
fourth place finish by the Junior Varsity Eights squad and
two other sixth place finishes at the Knecht Cup
Championships Sunday on the Cooper River.
The Blue Hens rowed to a time of 7:27.3
to place fourth overall in the Junior Varsity Eights race
and also placed sixth in the Lightweight Eights (7:26.6) and
Novice Fours (8:49.6) to complete an outstanding team
performance. No team standings were kept.
Also for Delaware, the Varsity Eights
placed 10th in with a time of 7:11.2 and the Novice Eights
placed 12th with a time of 8:07.0. The Varsity Fours team
placed sixth in its heat Saturday with a time of 8:56 and
did not advance to Sunday's finals.
The Junior Varsity Eights team was made
up of Nicole Lombardi, Elizabeth Harris, Lisa Hardy,
Jess Colpo, Alison Conway, Andrea Placke, Janice Brown,
Laura McDonald, and Elizabeth McGarry. Wisconsin
won the race in a time of 7:01.7 followed by Boston College
(7:17.7), Massachusetts (7:23.2), Delaware (7:27.3),
Villanova (7:33.1), and Connecticut (7:43.1).
Delaware's Lightweight Eights team of
Carolyn Serey, Denise Burke, Dana Lohr, Laura Muto, Emily
McElwain, Stef Lazorick, Tory Yanakos, Lyra Sawzin, and
Susan Carbine placed sixth with a time of 7:26.6.
Princeton won the race in 6:58.3 followed by Radcliffe
(6:58.7), Wisconsin (7:07.7), Central Florida (7:15.7),
Villanova (7:18.3), and Delaware.
In the Novice Fours, Delaware group of
Jamie Hartnett, Jamie Schoeonwald, Jessica Kostick,
Courtney Maggiulli, and Cathy Savarese was sixth
in a time of 8:49.6 behind winner Johns Hopkins (8:32.6),
Wichita State (8:37.0), Kansas (8:43.0), Tulsa (8:45.7), and
Bryn Mawr (8:49.0). A total of 41 teams competed in the
race.
In the Varsity Eights, Delaware's team of
Alli Garwood, Megan Batykefer, Elizabeth McInturff,
Kylie Campbell, Betsy Ferry, Danah O'Connor, Lissa Kutz,
Dawn Hussnatter, and Leanna Ferrand placed fourth
in the Petite Final to earn 10th place overall in a time of
7:11.2. Rhode Island won the race in 7:00.4 to take seventh
place. Buffalo was eighth in 7:04.1 followed by North
Carolina (7:07.4), , Delaware, Wisconsin (7:12.6), and
Temple (7:20.6).
In the Novice Eights, the Blue Hen team
of Sarah Mazurkevich, Jenna Darrenkamp, Leslie Forsyth,
Katherine Reiner, Val Schuster, Cindy Dudzinski, Kate
Sianni, Lane Kohl, and Becca Bauer placed sixth
in the Petite Final to place 12th overall out of 39 teams
with a time of 8:07.0. North Carolina won the race and
placed seventh with a time of 7:31.8 followed by Connecticut
(7:38.8), Indiana (7:41.5), Massachusetts (7:50.8), Boston
College (7:59.8), and Delaware (8:07.0).
Delaware's Varsity Fours team of Kat
Campagnini, Nicole Ferrari, Jen Suminski, Maureen
Gillen, and Liz Florin placed fifth in its heat
with a time of 8:56 but did not advance. LaSalle won the
heat in a time of 8:12.
Delaware will return to action April 19
at the Murphy Cup in Philadelphia.
