Blue Hens
Rowers Win Three of Five Races
BETHLEHEM, PA --
The University of Delaware women's rowing team won three of
the five races in a dual meet against host Lehigh University
Saturday afternoon on the Lehigh River.
Delaware teams captured
the Novice Eights, Lightweight Fours, and Second Varsity
Eights races and placed second in the Varsity Eights and
Heavyweight Fours races.
Delaware won the Novice
Eights race in a time of 6:09.36 as the team of Stacey
Atsaides, Emily McElwain, Kathleen Servis, Lauren Fretz,
Meredith Bullamore, Stefanie Schneider, Hannah Evans,
Courtney Bull, and Maureen Gillen upended Lehigh
(6:15.36).
The Blue Hens won the
Second Varsity Eights race as Delaware's junior varsity team
of Carolyn Serey, Jessica Colpo, Erinn Batykefer,
Jessica Ayers, Jen Suminski, Leanna Ferrand, Danah O'Connor,
Janice Brown, and Dawnyel Boucek rowed to a
winning time of 6:00.76 to outdistance Delaware's
Lightweight Varsity Eights team of Dana Hammond, Laura
Muto, Lisa Hardy, Denise Burke, Tory Yanakos, Susan Krause,
Fay Schmid, Stef Lazorick, and Dana Lohr in
6:16.15. Lehigh was third with a time of 6:18.06.
The UD Lightweight Fours
team of Alexis Klair, Nicole Ferrari, Liz Florin,
Lindsay Greco, and Susan Carbine was also a
winner with a time of 6:37.50, defeating Lehigh, which had a
time of 6:48.7.
Delaware was second
behind Lehigh (5:40.54) in the Varsity Eights race with a
time of 5:59.42. Delaware's team consisted of Alli
Garwood, Lauren Heller, Elizabeth McInturff, Lissa Kutz,
Dawn Hussnatter, Betsy Ferry, Kylie Campbell, Laura
McDonald, and Erin Quimby.
Lehigh captured the
Heavyweight Fours race in a time of 6:18.93 to down
Delaware's team of Kat Campagnini, Andrea Placke,
Elizabeth McGarry, Elizabeth Harris, and Dana
Lohr, which posted a time of 6:35.87.
The Blue Hens will return
to action next Saturday when they travel to Jacksonville, FL
to take on host Jacksonville, Central Florida, and Stetson
in a four-way meet.
