JACKSONVILLE, FLA -- The
University of Delaware women's rowing team won the Varsity
Eights race and finished second in three other events at the
Petrakis Cup hosted by Jacksonville University Saturday on
the Trout River.
The six-team field included squads from
Delaware, Jacksonville, Tulane, Stetson, Wisconsin, and
Central Florida.
Delaware captured the Varsity Eights race
in 6:09.80, was second in the Junior Varsity Eights
(7:34.9), second in the Lightweight Eights (7:03.8) and
Lightweight Fours (8:30.30), third in the Novice Eights
(7:57.1), and fourth in the Heavyweight Fours
(7:49.1).
In the Varsity Eights, Delaware outrowed
runner-up Central Florida by almost 10 seconds to capture
the races' top event. The Blue Hen team consisted of Alli
Garwood, Lauren Heller, Elizabeth McInturff, Lissa Kutz,
Dawn Hussnatter, Betsy Ferry, Kylie Campbell, Laura
McDonald, and Erin Quimby. Jacksonville was third
followed by Tulane and Stetson.
Delaware placed second in the Junior
Varsity Eights behind winner Central Florida (7:27.3) as the
team of Carolyn Serey, Jessica Colpo, Erinn Batykefer,
Jessica Ayers, Jen Suminski, Leanna Ferrand, Danah O'Connor,
Janice Brown, and Alison Conway finished with a
time of 7:34.9.
The Lightweight Eights team of Dana
Hammond, Laura Muto, Lisa Hardy, Denise Burke, Tory Yanakos,
Susan Krause, Fay Schmid, Stef Lazorick, and Lyra
Sawzin was second behind Wisconsin (7:03.8) with a time
of 7:27.5, ahead of third place Central Florida and fourth
place Wisconsin.
Delaware picked up its third second place
finish in the Lightweight Fours as the team of Alexis
Klair, Nicole Ferrari, Liz Florin, Lindsay Greco, and
Susan Carbine rowed to a time of 8:30.30. Wisconsin
won with a time of 8:00.30 while Central Florida was third
in 8:52.30.
The Blue Hens' Novice Eights team of
Stacey Atsaides, Emily McElwain, Kathleen Servis, Lauren
Fretz, Hannah Evans, Stefanie Schneider, Meredith Bullamore,
Courtney Bull, and Maureen Gillen rowed to a time
of 7:57.1, trailing winner Central Florida A (7:23.9) and
Central Florida B (7:50.5).
In the Heavyweight Fours, Delaware placed
fourth behind Central Florida (7:25.8), Wisconsin (7:29.4),
and Jacksonville e(7:47.2) as the team of Kat
Campagnini, Andrea Placke, Elizabeth McGarry, Elizabeth
Harris, and Dana Lohr put in a time of
7:49.1
Delaware will host the University of New
Hampshire in an exhibition meet next Saturday, Apr. 6 before
continuing official competition Apr. 13 at the Knecht Cup in
Cherry Hill, NJ.
