Fairfield, Massachusetts

SHELTON, CT -- The University of
Delaware women's rowing team opened its 2002 schedule with
an outstanding performance, winning three of the four events
in a dual meet with host Fairfield University and the
University of Massachusetts Saturday afternoon.
Delaware captured the Lightweight Eights,
Novice Eights, and Varsity Fours races and was second in the
Varsity Eight race to cap an outstanding day in the season
opener for head coach Amanda Kukla's
squad.
Delaware won the Lightweight Eights race
as the team of Dana Hammond, Laura Muto, Lisa Hardy,
Denise Burke, Tory Yanakos, Nicole Ferrari, Fay Schmid, Stef
Lazorick, and Lyra Sawzin rowed to a time of
7:25.68. Massachusetts was second (7:28.79) followed by
Delaware's B team of Carolyn Serey, Jessica Colpo, Erinn
Batykefer, Elizabeth Harris, Jen Suminski, Leanna Ferrand,
Danah O'Connor, Janice Brown, and Alison Conway
in third (7:32.71).
In the Novice Eights race, Delaware's
team of Stacey Atsaides, Emily McElwain, Kathleen Servis,
Lauren Fretz, Meredith Bullamore, Stefanie Schneider, Hannah
Evans, Courtney Bull, and Maureen Gillen was the
winner with a time of 7:48.15. Massachusetts' A team was
second in 7:55.51 followed by its B team in
8:26.23.
In the Varsity Fours race, Delaware
captured the first two places as the Blue Hens' A team of
Kat Campagnini, Andrea Placke, Elizabeth McGarry, Janet
Hoyler, and Dana Lohr won with a time of 8:52.62
and the Hens' B team of Alexis Klair, Liz Florin,
Dawnyel Boucek, Lindsay Greco, and Susan Carbine
was second in 9:03.10. Massachusetts was third in 9:17.09
while Fairfield was fourth in 9:33.95.
In the Varsity Eight race, Massachusetts
won with a time of 7:08.18, edging Delaware by just over
three seconds in 7:11.83. Fairfield was third with a time of
7:32.86. Delaware's second place team consisted of Alli
Garwood, Lauren Heller, Elizabeth McInturff, Lissa Kutz,
Dawn Hussnatter, Betsy Ferry, Kylie Campbell, Laura
McDonald, and Erin Quimby.
Delaware will return to action next
Saturday, March 23, at Lehigh.
