Delaware Rowers Win Two Races in Dual with Wm. & Mary

 

WILMINGTON, DE -- The University of Delaware women's rowing team won two races in a non-scoring dual meet with William & Mary Saturday on the Christina River.

The meet was the first home meet for the Blue Hen rowing team now in its first season of varsity competition.

Delaware's Novice Heavyweight Eight team of Michelle Peto, Becky Knieriem, Frances O'Brien, Emily Drury, Marnie Merriam, Cathy Visintainer, Heather Bieler, Susan Krause, and Allison Pyne won its race in a time of 7:29, six seconds faster than William & Mary.

Also picking up a first place finish for the Hens was the Novice Lightweight Eight team of Nicole Belsole, Danielle Stevens, Krause, Stacie Konrad, Rebecca Todd, Dana Hammond, Georgia Basso, Courtney Pierrot, and Laura Gordon which rowed to a winning time of 7:49, four seconds ahead of William & Mary.

William & Mary captured the Varsity Four race in a time of 8:33, edging Delaware's team of Nicole Palmer, Erica Chisholm, Whitney McCormick, Lisa Trivisione, and Laurie Patria with 8:37.

The Tribe also won the Varsity Heavyweight Eight race in 6:37, defeating the UD team of Jenn O'Keefe, Kristin Vander Els, Gail Orem, Frances O'Brien, Mo Daley, Courtney Forrester, Karen Hommer, Amanda Duley, and Liz White (6:53).
