NEWARK, DE -- University of Delaware women’s rowing head coach Laura Slice has announced the signing of high school standouts Jamie Logan from Saratoga Springs, NY and Allegra Smith from Princeton, NJ.

Logan (left) and Smith (right) will enroll at the University of Delaware this coming fall and compete for the Blue Hen women’s rowing team.

“We are very pleased to have signed Jaime and Allegra,” said Slice, who will enter her fifth season as head coach this spring. “Both are very talented rowers who have had much success at the high school level. I look forward to seeing their contribution to the speed of Delaware's team in the coming years.”

The 5-8 Logan attends Saratoga Springs High School where she is an honor student and also competes for the Saratoga Rowing Association. A four-year rower, Logan has competed in the Stotesbury Cup, New York State Championships, Scholastic Rowing Association of America National Regatta, and the Canadian Henley.

She captured the New York State Novice/Freshman Eights titles in both 2004 and 2005 and the Varsity Eights championship in 2007, placed second in the 2005 Freshman Eights race at the Stotesbury Cup, and finished second at the Scholastic Rowing Association of America National Regatta in 2005.

The 5-8 Smith attends the Hun School in Princeton, NJ where she has been a standout member of the rowing squad for four seasons. She placed fourth at the 2007 Philadelphia City Championships, fifth at the 2007 Scholastic Rowing Association of America National Regatta, and sixth at the 2007 Stotesbury Regatta. In addition, she was selected from over 10,000 student-athletes and was named the 2007 Crew Student Athlete of the Year by the National Collegiate Scouting Association.

Delaware will open its 2007 season March 8 at Saint Joseph’s.
