 NEWARK, DE -- University of Delaware women’s rowing head coach Laura Slice has announced the addition of four assistants to her coaching staff for the 2007-08 season.
Richard Wilson (top left) has been named a graduate assistant coach while former UD rowing standouts Jenn Boutin (top right), Nikki Jackowsky (bottom left), and Maria Bellumori (bottom right) have been named volunteer assistant coaches. They will join a staff that includes Slice and fifth-year assistant coach Courtney Levering.
Wilson, 42, comes to Delaware with an impressive rowing background as both an athlete  and as a coach. A native of Buffalo, NY, he earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1987 and received his MBA in corporate finance from the University of Dallas (TX) in 1994. He will be working on a master’s degree in exercise physiology at Delaware.
As a rower, he earned a gold medal at the Ontario Championships in 1981 while attending Ridley College High School, competed two seasons at the University of Pennsylvania in 1983-84, captured one gold medal as a member of West Side Rowing Club in Buffalo, NY in 2004, won two Canadian Henley championships in 1982-83 as a member of the St. Catharines Rowing Club, and also competed for the Vesper Boat Club in Philadelphia in 1986-87.
As a coach, Wilson served three seasons as coach of the West Side High School boy’s program in Buffalo and started the men’s and women’s rowing club program at Niagara (NY) University in 2003, serving until the fall of 2005. While at Niagara, his teams posted consistent top 10 finishes at various regattas and his women’s Novice Fours team placed sixth at Metro Atlantic Athletic Association Championships in 2005. He is a Rowing Canada Level 2 certfied coach and is currently working on his Level 3 certification.
He currently workes as a real estate agent with Hunt Commercial Real Estate in Buffalo but has previously worked as an credit analyst, underwriter, stock analyst, and financial planner in the Chicago and Buffalo areas and served as an adjunct professor in the College of Business Administration at Niagara University in 2003. In 1990-92, he served as a legislative assistant to United States Senator and current Presidential candidate John McCain.
Bellumori, a native of Woolwich Township, NJ, earned her degree with honors in fitness management in May. A four-year letterwinner, she helped lead Delaware to unofficial Colonial Athletic Association team titles in 2004 and 2006 and captured the 2006 CAA title in the Novice Eights category. She also placed second in the Varsity Fours at the 2005 CAA Championships and second in the Second Varsity Eights category at the 2007 CAA Championships. She was a three-sport standout in soccer, cross country, and track and field at Kingsway Regional High School.
Boutin, a native of Burke, VA, earned her degree with honors in environmental science with minors in history, geology, and economics in May. A three-year letterwinner, she helped lead Delaware to unofficial Colonial Athletic Association team titles in 2004 and 2006 and placed second in the Second Varsity Eights crew at the CAA Championships each of the last three seasons. She also placed fourth in the Second Novice Eights at the ECAC Metro Championships in 2004. She was a three-year standout at Lake Braddock High School where she was a two-time team captain.
Jackowsky, a native of Pompton Plains, NJ, earned her degree in accounting with minors in French and Italian from Delaware in May. A four-year letterwinner, she was a member of Delaware’s Varsity Eights crew in 2007 and led the team to a third place finish at the CAA Championships ands a fifth place showing at the ECAC Metro Championships. She was a member of Delaware’s CAA team championship squads in both 2004 and 2006 and captured CAA titles in the Varsity Eights in 2006 and in the Novice Eights in 2004. She competed in track and field at Pequannock Township High School.
