Freshman Hardy Wins
Two Events in Delaware's 2000
Debut
WILMINGTON, DE -- The University
of Delaware women's rowing team opened its 2000 season by
winning three of four events in a non-scoring dual meet vs.
William & Mary on the Christina River Saturday
afternoon.
The Blue Hens, now in their second season
as a varsity sport at Delaware, captured the Varsity
Lightweight Eight, Novice Heavyweight Eight, and Novice Four
events and placed second in the Varsity Heavyweight Eight
race in their 2000 debut. Delaware freshman Lisa
Hardy (Delsea/Franklinville, NJ) competed on two winning
teams in her collegiate debut.
In the Varsity Lightweight Eight race,
the Delaware team of Jenn O'Keefe, Danielle Stevens,
Whitney McCormick, Denise Burke, Nicole Belsole, Laurie
Patria, Tory Yanakos, Nicole Ferrari, and Susan
Krause rowed to a winning time of 5:56.0. William &
Mary finished with a time of 6:01.0.
In the Novice Heavyweight Eight,
Delaware's "A" team of Dana Hammond, Jessica Colpo, Jenni
Buckley, Lissa Kutz, Lauren Heller, Betsy Ferry, Victoria
Humenik, Hardy, and Katey Prosser won with a time
of 5:34.0, beating William & Mary's time of 5:52.
In the same race, the Blue Hen "B" team
of Anna Christopher, Amy Servidea, Ashley Connell, Maggie
Bartholomew, Jen Suminski, Logan Thompson, Robin Kraft,
Marybeth Engel, and Mckenzie Jones was third in
6:02.0.
In the Novice Four, Delaware's team of
Allison Haug, Hardy, Bridget Fairchild, Servidea, and
Lindsay Morris won with a time of 6:17. William &
Mary was second in 6:58.
William & Mary won its only race in
the Varsity Heavyweight Eight with a time of 6:11.0, six
seconds better than Delaware's time of 6:17.0.
The Blue Hen team consisted of Emily
Bercaw, Amanda Duley, Gail Orem, Gayle Dornan, Karen Hommer,
Jessica Ayres, Heather Bieler, Elizabeth Schultz, and
Courtney Levering.
The Blue Hens will compete at the
Occoquan (Va.) Sprints next Sunday, April 2.
