RICHMOND, VA -- Freshman forward Ariene Jenkins, who scored a career-high 15 points in Delaware's 64-49 victory at George Mason on Sunday, has been named Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week.
Jenkins (at right), a native of Woodbridge, VA who redshirted last season, connected on four of her nine field goal attempts and went 7-for-9 from the free-throw line against the Patriots. She also pulled down seven rebounds and added an assist and a steal for the Blue Hens, who opened their CAA season in style and snapped a school-record 11-game losing streak.
Jenkins saw only spot duty before making her first start on Dec. 21 against Bowling Green. In four games as a starter, she's averaging 4.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per contest.
With 15 points against GMU, Jenkins eclipsed her previous career high of nine, set during a loss to Quinnipiac on Dec. 18.
The Woodbridge High School product is contributing 3.3 points and 3.2 boards per game on the season and is among UD's best free-throw shooters at .833.
Jenkins is the first Blue Hen this season to take home CAA weekly honors.
Old Dominion forward Jessica Canady was selected CAA Player of the Week after scoring 21 points off the bench in the Monarchs' win over Georgia State on Sunday.
