DOVER, DE -- The University of Delaware women’s basketball team, which posted one of the finest seasons in school history this year by tying the school record for wins and advancing to the NCAA Tournament, will be honored by the Delaware State Legislature Tuesday, April 3, in a ceremony at Legislative Hall.

Members of the Blue Hen team, head coach Tina Martin (at right) and her staff, and members of the UD athletics administration will be on hand for the ceremony. The Blue Hens will be guests of honor in the House chamber at 2 p.m. followed by an appearance in the Senate. The team will be honored with a resolution, citing its participation in the NCAA Tournament in March.

Delaware posted a record of 26-6 this past season under Martin, tying the school record for wins and surpassing the 20-win mark for the seventh time in the last eight seasons. The Blue Hens also tied a school record for conference wins in a season by going 16-2 in Colonial Athletic Association to place third during the regular season.

The Blue Hens defeated two Top 20 opponents during the season, downing then No. 20 Kentucky 86-70 on Nov. 24 to capture the Odwalla Classic title in San Francisco, CA and knocking off then No. 22 James Madison 77-67 Feb. 22. The wins marked the first time Delaware had ever defeated a top 20 opponent.

Delaware won its CAA quarterfinal contest with a 79-58 win over Virginia Commonwealth before falling to No. 2 seed James Madison 67-56 in the CAA semifinals.

Despite falling in the CAA Tournament, the Blue Hens received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament and travelled to East Lansing, MI before falling to No. 23 seed and host Michigan State 69-58 in the first round. The Hens advanced to the NCAA Tournament for just the second time in school history and for the first time since the 2000-01 campaign.

The Blue Hens were led by Kodak Regional All-American and two-time first team All-CAA guard Tyresa Smith, third team All-CAA forward Chrissy Fisher, and four-year starting point guard Alena Koshansky. Smith, a two-time CAA Defensive Player of the Year from Dover, DE, led the team and the CAA in scoring with 19.8 points per game.
