NEWARK, DE -- University of Delaware senior guard Tyresa Smith (at right) was among 40 players invited to the WNBA’s predraft camp, March 29-31, in Cleveland.
The WNBA draft will take place in Cleveland on April 4, where 39 players will be selected in a 13 team, three round draft.
Smith joins 2001 graduate Cindy Johnson as the only Delaware player to be invited to the WNBA camp. Johnson was not drafted.
Smith, who was named a finalist for the 2007 Kodak/WBCA All-America Basketball Team, was a first-team All-CAA member and the CAA’s Defensive Player of the Year in each of the last two seasons.
The senior led the CAA in scoring and ranked 18th in Division I by averaging 19.8 points per game. Smith was also second on the team in rebounding and steals with 7.5 boards a game and 2.6 steals per game.
The Blue Hens ended their season Sunday with a 69-58 loss to No. 23 Michigan State in the NCAA Tournament. Smith led the Blue Hens to 26 victories this season, tying a school-record, and she broke Cindy Johnson’s single-season scoring record with 632 points on the year.
Smith ends her tremendous career at Delaware as the second leading scorer all-time and career leader in steals. She also finished fifth all-time in assists and 11th in rebounding.
