Delaware 67, Stony Brook 58 November 25, 2003 Sailer Leads Balanced Attach as Hens Win First Game of the Young Season   Tiffany Young scored 13 points and pulled five rebounds for the Hens Complete Game Statistcs STONY BROOK, NY -- Junior guard Julie Sailer led a balanced effort with 15 points and forwards Tiffany Young and Tiara Malcom each added 13 points as the University of Delaware women's basketball team picked up its first win of the young season with a 67-58 victory over host Stony Brook Tuesday night at Stony Brook Sports Complex. The Hens, who opened the season with a tough 80-78 setback to Richmond in overtime Friday night, improved to 1-1 as they broke away from a four-point halftime lead to post the victory. Delaware outscored Stony Brook 26-6 at the foul line and held a commanding 40-28 advantage on the boards. Stony Brook, a member of the America East conference, fell to 0-2 on the season despite shooting 46 percent (23 of 50) from the field for the game. Guard Theresa LoParrino led the Seawolves with 14 points, including three three-pointers, while Mykeema Ford came off the bench to add nine points. Stony Brook converted on six of 11 three-pointers but it wasn't enough. Delaware, one of the nation's top free throw shooting teams over the last few years, was deadly from the foul line again as the Hens hit on 26 of 33 tries for a percentage of 78.8. Sailer hit on 7 of 10 free throws while Malcom was 7 for 8 and Young hit on 5 of 6. Young matched a career high in points for the second straight game. Malcom and Sailer each pulled six rebounds to lead the Hens. Sailer and Young combined for 20 points in the first half as the Hens built a 33-29 lead at intermission. Delaware broke the fourth tie of the game at 16-16 with a 6-0 run in which Young hit a basket and Sailer nailed a jumper and two free throws. The teams tied again at 29-29 with 1:12 left before the break, but Malcom hit two free throws and Sailer converted a three-point play off a layup to give the Hens the 33-29 lead. The Blue Hens pulled away in the second half, scoring two straight baskets by Amanda Blackstone and Malcom 29 seconds apart for a 49-40 lead with 10:11 remaining. Stony Brook never got closer than five points of the rest of the way as the Hens answered every Seawolf spurt. After Stony Brook cut the lead to five at 63-58 with 38 seconds remaining, the Hens countered with a layup by Blackstone with 25 seconds remaining for a 65-58 lead and Malcom buried two free throws with one second left to ice the victory. The Blue Hens will return to action this weekend when they travel to Connecticut for the Fairfield University Tournament. Delaware will take on Brown in the opening round Saturday night at 5 p.m. The final and consolation game will be played Sunday.
