Old Dominion 70, Delaware 57 February 20, 2004 Blue Hens Fall To League-Leading Monarchs Complete Game Statistics NORFOLK, VA -- Guard Max Nhassengo connected on 11 of 17 shots from the field for a game-high 22 points and forward Myriah Spence added 16 points and a team-high 10 rebounds as league-leading Old Dominion pulled away early in the second half and cruised to a 70-57 Colonial Athletic Association women's basketball victory over the University of Delaware Friday night at the Ted Constant Convocation Center. The Blue Hens, who put three scorers in double figures led by Tiara Malcom's 16 points, lost for the fifth time in the last six games and fell to 14-9, 6-8 CAA. Tracey Howell chipped in with a double-double on 10 points and a team-high 10 rebounds and Tiffany Young came off the bench to add another 10 points for Delaware. Tyresa Smith also added eight points and a team-high eight rebounds for the Hens. Old Dominion (18-6, 13-1 CAA), the 12-time defending CAA champions, extended its league lead to four games as the Monarchs won their 11th straight game and swept the season series with Delaware. Old Dominion is now 11-0 this season at home. Delaware shot just 37.5 percent from the field (21 of 56) and committed 22 turnovers. Old Dominion held a commanding 41-29 edge on the boards and shot 49.2 percent from the field for the game. The Monarchs broke the game open in the second half when they hit on 17 of 30 attempts from the field (56.7 percent). Delaware played Old Dominion straight up in the first half, leading for much of the first 10 minutes before the Monarchs grabbed the lead. Delaware's Liz Hayes cut the lead to two points just 1:10 before the half, but Nhassengo scored on a layup with 35 seconds left in the opening stanza to put ODU up 31-27 at the break. The second half was all Old Dominion as the Monarchs outscored Delaware 13-2 in the first six minutes to take control. Malcom scored a layup 37 seconds into the half to cut the ODU lead to 33-29, but the Monarchs proceeded to score 11 straight points, capping the run on a layup by Monique Coker with 15:14 left to play to up the lead to 44-29. Delaware finally ended a nearly six-minute scoring drought when Amanda Blackstone connected on a three-pointer with 13:37 remaining to reduce the lead to 44-32. But the Hens would never get closer than 10 points the rest of the way as Old Dominion used some hot shooting to stay in front.
