Delaware 80, Ilirija Slovenia 33 November 4, 2001 Megan Dellegrotti NEWARK, DE -- Junior guard Allison Trapp scored a game-high 15 points and senior forward Christina Rible helped the University of Delaware control the boards with 14 points and 18 rebounds as the Blue Hen women's basketball team opened its 2001-2002 exhibition season with an 80-33 victory over the Ilirija club team from Slovenia. Delaware opened up a 43-18 halftime lead and never looked back in posting the easy victory. The Blue Hens, first-year members of the Colonial Athletic Association, will play their second and final exhibition game Nov. 11 vs. the M.I. Express at the Bob Carpenter Center. The Hens will open the regular season 23 at the UNC Greensboro Tournament in Greensboro, NC. The Hens outrebounded Ilirija 58-35 and took advantage of 30 turnovers and 27 fouls. Guard Polona Oberc led Ilirija with 12 points. Trapp, a key reserve last season who will move into a starting spot this season, hit on 5 of 6 shots from the field while also dishing out two assists and collecting three steals to lead the way. She scored nine points in the first half as the Hens built a 43-18 lead. Rible, a first team All-America East selection a year ago, collected nine rebounds each on the offensive and defensive end to aid the Blue Hen romp. Freshman forward Julie Sailer came off the bench to add 12 points for the Blue Hens while senior point guard Megan Dellegrotti added 11 points, four assists, and four steals. Freshmen forwards Tiara Malcom and Tiffany Young also had a fine showings with Malcom scoring four points and pulling eight rebounds and Young chipping in with five points and five rebounds. All 15 Blue Hen players saw at least six minutes of action and all but three scored.
