Allison Trapp scored 22 points, dished out eight assists, and tied a UD record with eight steals

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY -- The University of Delaware starting backcourt of Megan Dellegrotti and Allison Trapp combined for 48 points, 10 rebounds, 13 assists, and 11 steals as the Blue Hen women's basketball squad rolled over host Marist 87-72 Saturday afternoon at the McCann Center.

The Blue Hens (6-2) won their third straight game with an offensive explosion that saw them score 51 first half points to jump out to a nine-point halftime lead they never relinquished.

Marist, a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, fell to 4-4 with its second straight loss despite 20 points, including six three-pointers, and six assists from forward Marie Fusci, who also scored her 1,000th point in the first half. The game marked the first ever meeting between the two schools.

Dellegrotti, a 5-6 senior from Berwick, PA (Berwick HS), had an outstanding overall game as she connected for 26 points, hit three three-pointers, pulled a team-high six rebounds, dished out five assists, and posted three steals. Dellegrotti hit for 20 or more points for the third time this season.

Trapp, a 5-9 junior from Philadelphia (West Catholic), hit for 22 points, pulled four rebounds, dished out a career-high eight assists, and tied a school record with eight steals. Trapp's eight steals tied the UD record set three other times, the last time by Denise Wojciech vs. Pennsylvania Dec. 10, 1994.

"This is a great win on the road for us," said Delaware head coach Tina Martin. "We stepped up late in the first to give us a big lead and we executed well the entire second half to pull out the win."

The Hens, who committed just 11 fouls and 12 turnovers for the game, shot 21 of 36 from the field (.583) to jump out to the 51-42 lead and never look back. The Hens needed every shot as Marist hit on 17 of its 31 first half shots (.548) but still trailed by nine at intermission.

Two other Blue Hens scored in double figures as freshman Tiara Malcom, making her second straight start in place of injured starter Christina Rible (broken finger), had 13 points and four rebounds while center Christine Cole had her second straight solid outing, netting 13 points and pulling five rebounds. Delaware freshman Julie Sailer missed her first free throw of the season after hitting her first 27, just four shy of the UD record.

Fusci led the Red Foxes with 20 points but the other four Marist starters managed just 20 points. Marist did get two solid efforts off the bench from Stephanie Del Preore and Maureen Magarity. Del Preore had 16 points and seven rebounds while Magarity added 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds.

Delaware will take a week off before returning home for its Colonial Athletic Association opener vs. former America East foe Hofstra Dec. 29 at 1 p.m. at the Bob Carpenter Center. The Hens have won a school record 21 straight home games at the BCC.
