Rible Hits a Double-Double, Trapp Scores 22 to Place Hens

Christina Rible had 20 points and 12 rebounds for the Hens

PHILADELPHIA -- Senior forward Christina Rible (Red Bank Regional/Little Silver, NJ) recorded her sixth double-double of the season with game-highs of 20 points and 12 rebounds and junior guard Allison Trapp (West Catholic/Philadelphia, PA) matched a season-high with 22 points in a return to her hometown as the University of Delaware cruised past host Drexel for a 77-59 Colonial Athletic Association women's basketball victory Thursday night at the Daskalakis Center.

The Blue Hens (12-4, 6-2 CAA) recorded their fourth straight victory as they broke open a close game in the second half and moved on to the win over the Dragons in the first ever meeting between the long-time rivals as CAA foes.

Drexel lost its third straight game to fall to 9-8, 2-6 despite a big effort from freshman forward Jessica Copskey who poured in 31 points and pulled nine rebounds. Copskey hit 9 of 21 field goals and 9 of 11 free throws while also draining four three-pointers and dishing out three assists. Drexel senior center Michelle Maslowski, the CAA's leading scorer at 20.7 points per game, was held in check by the Hens as she hit just 5 of 12 shots from the field and finished with 12 points.

"This was a great team effort tonight," said Delaware head coach Tina Martin. "We played so well as a team. We've really come out the last four games and focused on our game plan. The effort has been amazing. We just have to stay consistent."

Delaware shot 44 percent from the field for the game (27 of 61), outrebounded Drexel by a 45-33 margin, and committed just 10 turnovers to post the victory, the team's fifth straight over the Dragons. The Hens, the No. 2 free throw shooting team in NCAA Division I at 78.2 percent, kept it up by converting 22 of 25 tries from the line, including 17 of 20 in the second half.

Delaware guard Megan Dellegrotti added 13 points and five assists and freshman Julie Sailer, last week's CAA Player of the Week, stayed hot by scoring 10 points and pulling eight rebounds off the bench.

Rible, who missed five games earlier this season with a broken pinkie, connected on 8 of 16 shots from the field and was 4 of 5 from the line to reach 20 points for the sixth time in her career. She is now just three points shy of becoming the 16th player in UD history to reach 1,000 career points. Trapp hit for 22 points for the third time this season, netting 11 of 16 shots from the field.

The Blue Hens built a five-point halftime lead and used a quick start in the second half to seal the win. Delaware opened the second stanza on a 10-3 run to go up 45-33 with 15:23 left to play. The Dragons fought back and closed the margin to seven points at 49-42 with 11:06 left and still trailed by only nine at 57-48 with 6:22 lead before the Hens put the game away, outscoring Drexel 11-3 to go up 68-51 with three minutes remaining. The Hens hit 9 of their last 10 free throws to stay on top.

Delaware will return to action Sunday when the Hens host CAA foe William & Mary at 4 p.m. at the Bob Carpenter Center in the CAA Television Game of the Week.
