NEWARK, DE -- Junior forward
Christina Rible tied a school record with her seventh
straight double-double with team highs of 18 points and 11
rebounds and junior forward Lindsay Davis came off
the bench to score 15 points as the University of Delaware
continued its winning ways with a 74-63 America East women's
basketball victory over Boston University Thursday night at
the Bob Carpenter Center.
Rible hit on 9 of 16 shots from the field
for her 18 points as she tied the school record set by Lori
Howard in 1979-80. The win gave Delaware (19-3, 13-0) its
14th straight win, 16th straight home win, and 21st straight
America East regular season victory. Boston University
(5-16, 2-10) got 16 points and seven rebounds from center
Alison Dixon and 16 points from Katie Terhune but lost its
10th straight game. Delaware has now defeated the Terriers
seven straight time.
The Blue Hens overcame a sluggish
performance by shooting 68.2 percent from the field in the
second half (15 of 22) and committing just 13 turnovers. The
Terriers were hurt by 20 turnovers, including 17 in the
first half.
Davis connected on three of five
three-pointers and also added five rebounds, four assists,
and two blocked shots while guard Cindy Johnson
chipped in with 13 points. The Hens played without starting
senior forward and third leading scorer Danielle
Leyfert who was nursing a knee injury.
Boston University led most of the first
half but the Hens used a 13-0 run and held the Terriers
without a field goal for the final eight minutes for a 35-31
lead at intermission.
The Blue Hens led the game for the first
13 minutes of the second half but never by more than six
points. The Terriers finally regained the lead at 59-58 with
6:51 left to play on a free throw by Alison
Argentieri.
But Delaware reeled off 13 straight
points over the next six minutes to put the game away,
taking a 71-59 lead before the Terriers scored with 55
seconds left. Davis started the run with two free throws and
iced the win with a three-pointer with 1:27 left to pace the
Hens.
