UD Cagers handed second home loss by Maine 77-66

NEWARK, DE -- Jamie Cassidy had 24 points and nine rebounds to help Maine (19-5, 15-1) hand the University Delaware women's basketball team (15-9, 9-7) only its second home loss of the season 77-66 on Thursday at the Bob Carpenter Center.

Delaware, who shot 26-72 from the field, was led by Danielle Leyfert who had 13 points and a game-high 10 rebounds for the Blue Hens. Sophomore guard Cindy Johnson had 12 points, scoring in double figures for her 16th consecutive game, while Megan Dellegrotti had 13 points, on 2-6 shooting from three point land.

Maine also got 20 points from Kristen McCormick on 6-10 three point shooting. Martin Tinklova also had 15 points, while Amy Vachon had six assists for the Black Bears.

Delaware, who lost 81-51 to the Black Bears earlier this season, took a 31-30 lead into halftime after closing the half on a 6-0 run. Maine stormed out of the gates in the second half on a 9-0 run. Delaware went on a 7-0 run to cut the lead to 39-38 but could not wrestle the lead from Maine. Delaware had the deficit down to 56-51 with seven minutes, but Maine went on a 12-4 run to move the score to 68-55 and close out the game for the Black Bears.
