NEWARK, DE - Cindy Johnson scored a career-high 26
points and freshman Megan Dellegrotti hit a
career-high 18 points to lead the University of Delaware to
its fourth straight victory and eighth straight home triumph
Tuesday night at the Bob Carpenter Center.
The Hens, playing without top player Danielle
Leyfert who injured an ankle in a win over Hartford
Saturday, improved to 10-5 with its fourth straight league
win and in the process surpassed last year's entire
conference win total (3-15). The Hens' 10 wins also marked
the highest total in head coach Tina Martin's three
years at the helm.
Hofstra (4-12, 2-6) lost its sixth straight America East
game despite 14 points from Tracy Abromavage and 13 points
and 13 rebounds from Kimberly Coke. The Hens are now 15-0
all-time vs. Hofstra in Newark, DE.
Johnson hit on 10 of 18 shots from the field and was 6 of
10 from the line for 26 points while Dellegrotti was 4 for 9
from the field and was perfect on all nine free throws.
Renee Baker added 10 points and Karen Mulligan
made seven steals, one shy of the UD record, for the Blue
Hens.
Delaware jumped out to a 35-21 halftime lead and led the
entire way. Hofstra cut the Blue Hen lead to 38-30 with
14:10 left to play, but the Hens followed with a 9-2 run and
were never threatened the rest of the way.
