Drexel Snaps Eight Game UD Home Winning Streak

NEWARK, DE -- Maureen Michaels had 18 points, including 11-13 fromthe free throw line, and five assists as Drexel (9-9, 5-5) ended the University of Delaware women's basketball teams (11-7, 5-5) eight game home streak by defeating the Hens 75-64 on Wednesday at the Bob Carpenter Center.

The Dragons got big baskets down the stretch from Michaels and Mikki Miller who scored 10 of the last 12 points for Drexel. Maslowski had 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Dragons, while Jenna Vebrosky chipped in with 16 points. Miller ended the game with 13 points.

Delaware was led by Cindy Johnson who had 14 points, and led the Hens in scoring for the fifth time in six games. Megan Dellegrotti chipped in with 13 points, hitting three out of four three-pointers on the night. Renee Baker had 11 points and eight rebounds, while Christina Rible led the Hens with 13 boards. Danielle Leyfert also had 10 points in her first game back since spraining her ankle against Hartford Jan. 16.

Delaware, who has now lost eight straight games to Drexel, trailed 35-33 at halftime after a seesaw first half which saw 12 lead changes. The early stages of the second half were back and forth and saw the Hens lead 40-39 at the 16:00 minute mark. However, Delaware would not see the lead again for the rest of the game after a Mikki Miller jumper at 15:48 put the Dragons ahead 41-40. The Hens stayed close and tied the game at 61 with 4:00 left. Delaware trimmed down the lead to 65-64 with 1:53 left after Dellegrott's three-pointer, but the Dragons responded with an 8-0 run to put the game away.
