Former
Blue Hen standout point guard Carrie
Timmins will begin her second season with
the University of Delaware women's
basketball staff as an assistant coach
under head coach Tina Martin in
2004-05.
Timmins,
23, was a four-year letterwinner who
started as a senior in 2002-03 and led the
Blue Hen women to a share of the Colonial
Athletic Association regular season title
and a second straight trip to the Women's
National Invitation Tournament
(WNIT).
A native
of New Oxford, PA (New Oxford High
School), Timmins played four seasons under
Martin and was part of some of the most
successful squads in Blue Hen history.
Delaware compiled a four-year record of
92-29 during her tenure, advanced to
post-season play three times, and led the
squad to an unprecedented four straight
20-win seasons. The Blue Hens won the
America East title and made their
first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance in
2001 and made their first Women's NIT
appearances in 2002.
After
serving in a backup point guard role
behind Megan Dellegrotti for three
seasons, Timmins took over the starting
point guard role last season and thrived,
leading the Blue Hens to a 22-9 record, a
share of the CAA title with perennial
champion Old Dominion, and a second
straight berth in the Women's NIT
Tournament.
Timmins
served as a co-captain and started 30 of
31 games, averaging 6.4 points per game
and ranked among the league leaders with
91 assists and 28 steals. She scored a
career-high 14 points in the Hens' regular
season win over ODU and in the team's CAA
Tournament win over Virginia Commonwealth
and dished out a career-high six assists
several times.
An honor
student who will earn her bachleor's
degree in health and exercise science from
Delaware this December, Timmins finished
her career tied for eighth on the all-time
UD games played list with 111.
She was a
CAA Ehlers Leadership Award nominee in
2002-03 as well as a Verizon/College
Sports Information Directors of America
Academic All-American nominee.
In March,
2002, she was honored by the National
Strength and Conditioning Association as
an "All-American" for her dedication to
conditioning and weight training. She
twice earned the basketball team's "Top
Conditioned Athlete Award".
Timmins is
single and resides in Newark.
