Lafayette 86-50 in Women's
Basketball
EASTON, PA -- The University of
Delaware enjoyed its biggest winning margin ever under head
coach Tina Martin as junior forward Danielle
Leyfert exploded for 22 points and a career-high 14
rebounds as the Blue Hens pounded host Lafayette 86-50 in
women's basketball non-league action Monday night at Kirby
Field House.
Leyfert hit on 10 of 16 shots from the
field, nailed one three pointer, blocked three shots, dished
out four assists, and had two steals in a balanced effort as
Delaware improved to 3-0 for the second straight season.
Lafayette, which got 19 points and nine rebounds from
forward Katie Miller and 10 points from forward Elizabeth
Rojahn, fell to 0-4.
The Hens improved to 10-2 all-time when
Leyfert scores 20 or more points. The junior from Vienna, VA
(Oakton HS) pulled 13 of her rebounds in the first half as
the Hens built a 36-27 lead.
The Hens broke open the game early in the
second half thanks to a 26-4 run over an eight-minute span.
The win was Delaware's largest victory margin ever in head
coach Tina Martin's four-year tenure at Delaware and the was
the largest win margin in a road game since the Hens
defeated West Chester 80-40 in West Chester, PA during the
1988-89 season.
Delaware outscored Lafayette 49-24 in the
second half, shooting 50 percent from the field (20 of 40)
in the final stanza and outrebounding the Leopards 53-37 for
the game.
Sophomore guard Megan Dellegrotti
came off the bench to added 13 points, Renee Baker
celebrated her 22nd birth day with a 10-point performance,
and Christine Koren dished out 10 assists to lead the
Blue Hen effort.
