January 12, 2000 Johnson Sparks Blue Hens to Non-League Win over Griffins
The Blue Hens (9-5), who snapped a two-game losing streak, put five scorers in double figures as Christina Rible, Megan Dellegrotti, Christine Koren, and Lindsay Davis each added 10 points. Rible also added a game-high 14 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season. Johnson netted her eighth 20-point game of the season. Canisius (4-10) lost its seventh straight game despite 29 points and 12 rebounds from forward Shauna Geronzin. Center Maggie Guidry added 12 points before fouling out with 4:57 left while Tricia Breznitsky added 11 points and seven assists. Delaware won despite shooting just 35 percent from the field (26 of 74) but took advantage of a 47-38 rebound margin and 29 turnovers by the Griffins. Canisius led early, going up by as much as 11 points at 19-8 with 10:28 left in the first half. But the Blue Hens rallied and took a slim 32-28 lead into halftime. Canisius never led the second half although the Griffins pulled to within two points three times early in the stanza. The Hens, who are now 6-1 at the BCC this season, led by as much as 14 points in the second half, capping a 12-6 run to go up 63-49 with 7:05.
