January 16, 2000 Dellegrotti Leads Hens in Win over Turnover-Plagued Terriers
NEWARK, DE -- Sophomore guard Megan Dellegrotti came off the benchto lead five scorers in double figures with 16 points and juniorforward Danielle Leyfert added 14 points and eight rebounds as the University of Delaware cruised to an easy 79-47 America Eastwomen's basketball victory over Boston University Sunday afternoon at the Bob Carpenter Center. The Blue Hens (11-5, 4-3) raced to their third straight win and posted their biggest victory margin since joining America East in 1991-92 as they took advantage of 32 Terrier turnovers. The 32- point win margin surpassed the previous mark of 21 points in a 71-50 win over Hofstra Nov. 9, 1994. Boston University (4-10, 1-5) lost its fourth straight despite a team-high 15 points and eight rebounds from forward Alison Dixon and 11 points from forward Dia Dufault. All 11 players scored for the Blue Hens as forward Christina Rible added 12 points and six rebounds, guard Christine Koren added 11 points and four assists, and guard Cindy Johnson chipped in with 10 points. The Hens improved to 8-1 at the Bob Carpenter Center this season. Delaware, which got scoring from all 11 players, took the lead two minutes into the game and never looked back. The Hens took a 33-16 halftime lead after forcing 17 first half Terrier turnovers and holding BU to just four points the final 13 minutes. The Hens opened up the second half on a 15-4 run in the first six minutes to go up 48-22 with 14:08 left to play and the rout was on. Boston University never got closer than 20 points the rest of the way as the Hens scored the last 12 points of the game. Delaware will take a week off before returning to play Jan. 22 at Towson.
