NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware volleyball team is scheduled to appear on the Youth In Sports television show on Comcast Cable tonight to discuss their conference championship run last season.
The hour-long show begins at 7:30 p.m. and is hosted by Dr. Michael Axe as well as Paul Schweizer and Walter Laudien.
The volleyball team, which is coming off the finest season in program history, captured its first ever Colonial Athletic Association title and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
The team was led by senior co-captains Colleen Walsh and Megan Welch, who earned conference Player and Setter of the Year honors, respectively. Sophomore libero Steph Barry was also named the CAA Defensive Specialist of the Year and became the first Blue Hen in program history to garner All-American accolades after receiving honorable mention honors from the AVCA.
Kelly Gibson, a third-year member of the team, was also honored as a third-team All-Conference selection, while freshman Katie Dennehy earned All-Rookie nods.
Junior Molly Rand, sophomore Michelle LaLonde, and freshmen Jess Chason, Paige Erickson, Greta Gibboney, and Heather Lively rounded out the championship squad.
Head coach Bonnie Kenny, who earned the Conference Coach of the Year award, led the team to its best finish ever in her sixth year guiding the program. She was assisted by Associate Head Coach Cindy Gregory and Graduate Assistant Sarah Graves.
The team will also be honored for its efforts at the men's basketball game on Wednesday against Hofstra at 7 p.m.
