NEWARK, DE -- University of Delaware senior volleyball captain Colleen Walsh earned the Girard S. and Sharon R. Clothier “EGG” Scholarship, announced by the University on Monday.
Known as the ‘EGG’ scholarship for its motto, “enjoy, give, grow,” the award is presented to a select female student-athlete who best exhibits the enjoyment of sports, the giving of herself to her teammates and others, and a growth in athletics as well as in life.
"Colleen is a great choice for this award,” said head coach Bonnie Kenny. “She constantly gives of her time and energy to benefit those that are not as fortunate. She is also a teammate that helps everyone around her be better people. The "EGG" could be Colleen’s middle name!"
Walsh (at right), a preseason first team All-CAA selection in 2007, is one of the top outside hitters in Delaware history. She is currently the Blue Hens’ all-time leader in kills per game, averaging 3.73 per contest. She is also second in attack attempts with 3,758 and third in total kills with 1,350.
During her sophomore and junior seasons, Walsh received second team All-CAA honors, while she was named to the All-Rookie Team as a freshman.
A dean’s list student and ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-American candidate, Walsh is a member of Delaware Christian Athletes and has volunteered at Urban Promise in Wilmington. She is also an active participant in the team’s Go Girl Go program.
A native of Cleveland, OH, Walsh is an economics and finance major at Delaware.
