NEWARK, DE -- Before Saturday's match against George Mason, the University of Delaware volleyball team honored the two senior members of the squad.

Following the match, senior co-captains Colleen Walsh and Megan Welch also thanked the crowd for their passionate support both this season and over the last four years.

Walsh and Welch have given the Blue Hen fans a great deal to cheer about during their careers, as both players have been key contributors to the volleyball program over the last four seasons. Both have been honored by the Colonial Athletic Association for their work on the court, and the two players have been celebrated for their impact off of it as well.

During her time at Delaware, Colleen Walsh has solidified her spot as one of the finest volleyball players in the history of the University of Delaware. Her 1,751 career kills are the most in school history, while her 3.84 kills-per-game average is also the highest of all-time.

A second team All-Conference selection the last two seasons, Colleen has been one of the top outside hitters in the CAA for four years.

This year, her second as a captain, she leads the CAA with 459 kills and a 4.46 kills-per-game average.

A difference-maker both on and off the court, Colleen has had a constant presence in the community, volunteering her time with Urban Promise, the Special Olympics, and Delaware Christian Athletes along with several other community service programs.

Walsh has also succeeded in the classroom as an economics major, earning a place on the CAA Academic Honor Roll as well as the ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-Region team.

During her standout four-year career, Megan Welch has become one of the top setters in Blue Hen history. Her 3,880 career assists are the second-most all-time, while her 11.62 assists-per-game average is the highest in school history.

The Most Valuable Player in both the 2006 Delaware Invitational and 2007 Coastal Carolina Tournament, Megan has also earned CAA Player of the Week honors this season and was selected as one of the weekly “Best of the Blue Hens” last year.

As a junior, she led the CAA with 1,570 assists, and her 13.42 assists-per-game average Athlete photoset a new Delaware single-season mark.

This year, while serving as a co-captain, she currently leads the entire conference with 1,341 assists. Her 13.02 assists-per-game average is also the best in the CAA and the 18th highest in all of Division I volleyball.

A hotel and restaurant institutional management major, Megan has spent countless hours in the community, serving as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, the Emmaus House, and the Special Olympics as well as other service programs.

She and Colleen also went to Trinidad last winter for humanitarian work as a part of the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship.
