LINCOLN, NE -- The University of Delaware volleyball team was selected 10th in the East Region in this week's RichKern.com/American Volleyball Coaches Association poll announced today.
The rankings, which are based on the Rich Kern Percentage Index, include teams from the Atlantic Coast, Big South, and Mid-Eastern Athletic Conferences as well as the Colonial Athletic Association.
Delaware, which has won 13 of its first 15 matches, is coming off a championship in the Caravelle Resort Invitational hosted by Coastal Carolina. The Hens had previously won the Delaware and New Orleans Tournaments earlier in the season.
The Blue Hens are led by senior co-captains Colleen Walsh and Megan Welch. Walsh leads the conference with 222 kills, while Welch, the current CAA Player of the Week, has posted a league-leading 639 assists.
Stephanie Barry (at right), the Hens’ sophomore libero, ranks first in the league with 331 digs and 30 service aces. Michelle LaLonde also boasts a conference-leading .354 attack percentage.
Fellow CAA members Hofstra and James Madison also are among the top-10 teams in the East, ranking No. 6 and 8 respectively.
Delaware returns to action tomorrow at 7 p.m. when the squad faces Towson for the conference opener at Viera Court.
