RICHMOND, VA -- University of Delaware junior outside hitter Colleen Walsh (Cleveland, OH/Regina) -right- was named the Colonial Athletic Association Volleyball Player of the Week on Monday after leading the Blue Hens to a pair of wins last weekend.
Walsh posted a career-high 32 kills in Delaware’s 3-2 win over William & Mary Friday, the second highest kills total in school history behind only Renee DuFlon’s 36 kills against Southern Connecticut in 1979. Walsh had just five attack errors against the Tribe to record a .409 hitting percentage while adding two blocks and two digs.
Walsh then recorded a team-high 27 kills while committing only seven errors to post a .329 hitting percentage in the Blue Hens’ 3-1 victory over Virginia Commonwealth Saturday in Delaware’s regular season finale. She also tied for the team lead with seven blocks and added one dig in the win over the Rams.
Walsh finished the weekend with 59 kills and just 12 errors to hit .370 during the two matches. She currently leads the CAA with 4.77 kills per game, ranks second with 5.04 points per game, and is ninth with a .284 hitting percentage.
Delaware finsihed the regular season 20-8 and was fifth in the CAA with an 11-7 mark. The Blue Hens face fourth-seeded Northeastern in the first round of the CAA Touranament Friday at 5 p.m. at regular season champion Hofstra.
